SMF-360 by TheXHS SMF-360 by TheXHS
The SMF-360 is a fighter aircraft, specialy designed for takeoff and landing on water. Becouse floats have significant drag, we use two engine, push-pull configuarion. Armed by two 37-mm cannon in wing and two 12.7 mm machin-gun above first engine.
This one also may used for reconnaissance and artillery spotting.
I think, similar aircraft may used for aerial defence at large battleship

Bailing out of P-38 had a hidden danger, there was a streamlined counterweight on the horizontal stabilizer that could injure the pilot or tear his parachute. As usual your designs are unique, and deserving of praise.

Is this a warbird of the early 1940s or a modern proposal?

На радость прекрасной половине обслуживающего персонала =)
На самом деле - нет, ведь передний двигатель крутит передний винт, а задний - задний. И связи механической между ними как то особо и не надо.

Retractable floats should help with the drag... but I don't think anyone has managed to make them work reliably in real life.

I love the design, it is like an aviation puzzle.
I can see many parts from many planes. Stuka nose, P-51 windshield, P-39 canopy hatch, P-38 tail, Do-335 engine configuration, Mibsubishi F1M floats (except the landing gear option).
To avoid drag, I'd consider designing the fuselage itself as floats. But I guess It wouldn't look as authentic as this design.
Overall it is a nice plane but it's still your SF-352 design that I like the most. =)

Making the fuselage into a float itself is ideal, but the big problem is keeping the propeller clear of the water and spray. =p

I really like this design. It would be awesome in a modernized version of Tale Spin.

your usually bailing out cause the engines are not working anymore would think your have similar clearance like bailing from the P61 or P38 the pilot clears the tail as they hit the birds slip stream having second engine does give your higher chance of not needing to bail in the first place. Kinda like te 337 which is real push puller prop job and seen it do skydiving duty in both civil and military.

Nice - I assume the rear prop has some way of detaching to let the pilot bail out, or is it fitted with an ejector seat?

I think - ejector seat will be better, because pilot have problem with tail too, when bail out.

the pilot had a safe way of getting out of a p-38 which had a similar tail config so that shouldn't be a problem
